After revising our MUN experiences we came up with some tips that can surely help you in terms of finding what you need. Here, we’ll just be making a few suggestions, but feel free to go beyond what we say. It’s good to bear in mind, however, that reliability is very important, and that it is going to be a major issue in our MUN this year. Wikipedia or Answers.com can still help you with general information, but don’t relay on that type of website to find all of the information you need, mainly because you’ll all be discussing very controversial topics.
Here is what we suggest:
- CIA Fact book - (It’s a must, mainly to get general information about a specific country) www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/index.html
- Google Alerts – This is great resource! Google will send you e-mails with articles that were published – daily! – about a specific subject. Don’t know how to use it? – Ok, go to google.com and then click on “news” on the top-left corner of the screen. Then to click on the link “news alerts” that will be on the left of your screen. After that, just add the subject you want to receive information over (like the name of your country) and choose how often you want to get them!
- BBC.uk and CNN.com – Good for current events, although some articles might have a biased view.
- Human Rights Watch – Great to find which countries are violating the Declaration and how. Go to www.humanrightswatch.org/
- Model UN Headquarters – Good for general information over the UN, as well as MUN procedures, and global issues. There’s also a good forum where you can talk to other delegates from all over the world. Check it out at http://www.un.org/cyberschoolbus/modelun/index.asp
- UN Agenda – This website has the major global issues that are on the UN Agenda. It’s a good resource that can give you ideas for resolution topics. Go to http://www.un.org/issues/
- WRI - For environmental issues, this is a great website. Remember that environmental problems will be something big in this year’s MUN. Be aware of what’s going on! http://www.wri.org/
- United Nations – Ok. You got to know about the UN itself. Check out their official website and learn more about the organizations, its purpose, goals, etc…. www.un.org

OBS.: Noticed how the majority of the websites I suggested are *.org or *.edu? That’s a good way of knowing if the information of that website is reliable! |
