Welcome to Pan American School Library Media Center. The media center is fully automated, and has a collection of approximatelly 15,000 books, 56 pariodicals subscriptions, 450 videos, 8 CD-ROM Encyclopedias, 16 computer stations connected to the Internet, and 2 online public access catalogs. The mission of the library is to promote education by teaching students and staff to be effective users of information and ideas as well as to promote literacy, critical thinking and effective communication.

Rules of the Library

  • Students must have a LIBRARY PASS.
  • No backpacks or handbags are allowed – please use the cubbies outside the library or your own locker.
  • Only one notebook or workbook is allowed.
  • No food or drink is allowed inside the library.
  • The library is a place to work or silent reading, no chatting is allowed.
  • Anyone who is noisy or rude will be asked to leave.
  • No students are allowed to sit between the aisles.
  • If you have overdue books or fines, you may lose your library privileges, such as the use the computers.
  • Any disregard of the library rules will result in a disciplinary referral.
Library Hours

Monday - Thursday: 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.

Check-out Policy

There is a limit of books per person:

1st to 5th grades – Two books

6th to 12th grades – four books

  • Books may be checked out for two weeks.
  • Current periodicals must stay in the library.
  • Older periodicals may be checked out for two weeks – limit is two per student.
  • Anyone with overdue materials of fine will not be allowed to check out any books nor use the computers.
  • There is a fine of R$0,25 per day for each overdue item.

Lost items:

Students will be charged current list price plus shipping and handling for any materials not returned within four weeks.If any item is found and returned later in usable condition, money will be returned.


Computer Usage Policy

The purpose of the computer usage, including the use of the Internet, is to promote educational excellence through research and learning. The use of the computers must be consistent with this purpose and the policies for students of Pan American School of Bahia. Violation of this policy could result in the loss of computer privileges, disciplinary action, and monetary payment for damages.

General Use


Log on under your own user name and password before using the computer, and log off after using it.
Do not change the computer settings.
Printing is limited to a maximum of 5 pages. Ask the librarian before printing.
A maximum of two students are allowed to share a computer. Do not stand around the computers.
Do not reboot the computers.
Use the computer for educational purposes only, do not display or download obscene or objectionable materials.
Internet usage will be monitored.
Private e-mail, private software, chatting and games are not allowed.
All personal data disks must be scanned for virus. Ask the librarians for help
